With the recent rains, the relief felt at the May 9th Osceola Water Works Board of Trustees meeting was palpable. With a jump in lake levels of more than 3.75 feet, the board unanimously decided to exit Section 3 – Water Emergency of the Osceola Water Works Conservation Ordinance and enter into Section 2 – Water Warning.

In a recent Disaster Proclamation, Iowa Governor Reynolds included Clarke County in a list of 8 hard hit counties, allowing resources to be made available for those impacted by recent storms. These funds will be provided through the The Iowa Individual Assistance Grant Program.
The Iowa Individual Assistance Grant Program provides grants of up to $5,000 per household based on property and income levels. The funds can go toward recovery from damage caused by recent storms.

Clarke Community Schools will be implementing an adjustment for language acquisition for elementary students starting with the 2024-25 school year. With 54-56% of the district being Spanish-speaking, the administration is working to help those students as well as open more opportunities for native English-speaking students. The program will be open to all students through a drawing held from all interested applicants.
