Clarke County and Osceola, Iowa businesses have a long history of welcoming college students into their operations as interns and this year is no different. Coming from all around the Midwest, the latest influx of interns were welcomed to Osceola during the CCDC’s monthly CEO Luncheon on the 8th of August. Hailing from Iowa State University, North Dakota State University, South Dakota School of Mines & Technology and from right here in Osceola, these interns, specializing in everything from mechanical engineering to nursing, will be earning first-hand experience in their chosen fields.
Altec Osceola Body Plant welcomed four interns in mechanical engineering and design, Osceola Foods sponsored three industrial engineering interns, and Southern Hills has taken on a student finishing her practicum for long-term administrative care. Each student will gain practical training as they work and learn daily with Osceola’s manufacturers and health care providers.
“We love inviting interns into our community,” said Bill Trickey, Executive Director of CCDC. “It’s a great opportunity to demonstrate that Osceola is a great place to live and work with roughly 4600 non–farm jobs, lots of entertainment options and nearly all the amenities you’d find in a big city without the big–city headaches.”
In a presentation by City Administrator, Ty Wheeler, many of the city’s improvements and goals were discussed as laid out in the Osceola 2022 Comprehensive Plan. The city’s Safe Routes and park trails projects, the bustling parks and recreation programs, and the solid employment opportunities in Osceola were all highlighted. With an impressive school system, available and affordable new housing options, and a high quality of life, Wheeler made a compelling case for the interns to consider calling Osceola their future home.
CCDC and the City of Osceola welcome these interns and are proud to showcase all the benefits of life in Clark County. Be sure to say hello if you see these students around town!
