IOWA DOT NEWS RELEASE

U.S. 69 TO CLOSE AT THE BURLINGTON NORTHERN AND SANTA FE RAILROAD CROSSING IN OSCEOLA ON SEPT. 14

POSTED ON: SEPTEMBER 01, 2020

FAIRFIELD, Iowa – Sept. 1, 2020 – Crossing repairs at the BNSF Railroad crossing on U.S. 69 in Osceola will require closing the roadway to traffic from 8 a.m. Monday, Sept. 14, until Friday, Sept. 25, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Fairfield District Office.

During this closure, motorists will be directed to use an official off-site detour (see map). The 0.6-mile marked detour will follow East Ayers Street, North Adams Street, and East Webster Street. It is anticipated the detour will be in place for approximately two weeks. Based on train scheduling and weather the construction schedule is subject to change. Local traffic will have access to U.S 69 except for the lanes at the railroad crossing (near mile marker 40.41).

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
