The 2nd Annual Heritage Days celebration is scheduled for Saturday, October 5th and Sunday October 6th at the Clarke Co. Museum grounds at 1030 S. Main St., Osceola. Saturday’s hours will be 10am-5pm and Sunday’s hours are 12pm-5pm.
Saturday events open with the Young Ambasadors Latino Dancers @11am and Heart of Iowa Cloggers @12pm. The day continues with live demonstrations including Blacksmithing, Spinning Wheel, Chuckwagon cooking and Wildlife Trapping.
We will be welcoming the Class of 1974 Reunion on Saturday.
Old-time relay races, pumpkin painting, scavenger hunts, Bingo, piñatas, and cornhusk dollmaking round out activities for the kids. Fall produce will be for sale. There will be live music on the Front Porch @1pm. Hank and Krystal Miler will serve chili, cornbread and spiced apples from the chuckwagon and Sacks Ice Cream truck will provide desserts.
Saturday @2:30pm, a new event this year, is the “Lil’ Miss and Mister Pioneer” contest. Bring the kids in their best old-time pioneer costumes for a chance at prizes in the boys’ and girls’ categories. The contest will be held on Saturday afternoon @2:30 pm on the Front Porch. Create your best pioneer costumes, and everyone is welcome to dress in pioneer garb, but the kids get the prizes!
Sunday opens @12 noon with live demonstrations and Apple Trails Family Orchard will be joining. Games, scavenger hunts, pumpkin painting and piñatas continue for the kids. For all ages, Corn Hole Open play is available from 1-3 pm courtesy of the FFA. Live music on the Front Porch will be Bruce Harris and Stringtown Hill from 1-4pm. Food will be provided by Los Altos Food Truck with beverages and desserts by Mayberry’s.
The Museum and grounds will be open both days for tours of the machine shed, 1854 Log Cabin, Knox #8 One Room Schoolhouse, and the Annex filled with old treasures. Transportation will be available to the out buildings for those who might need assistance.
Admission and parking are free. Donations are welcome. We are a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Your donations are tax deductible. We are an all volunteer organization and your donations help us cover our annual operating expenses and on-going projects.
