Join the staff of Stephens State Forest and Red Haw State Park on a free, guided hike on New Year’s Day. Hikers can meet at 10 AM at Woodburn Trailhead Parking Lot in the forest for a 3-mile hike led by Area Forester Matthew Gannon and Red Haw State Park Manager Riley Henry.

“First Day Hikes have become a tradition for Iowans to experience the quiet, wintry beauty of our state parks and forests,” says Sherry Arntzen, chief of the DNR State Parks, Forests and Preserves Bureau. “These hikes are a great way to get outside, exercise, enjoy nature and welcome the New Year with friends and family.”

Hikers can expect to be surrounded by the quiet beauty of nature in winter, and experience spectacular views, beautiful settings and the cultural treasures offered by Iowa’s state parks. At Stephens State Forest, hikers can enjoy a nice, 3-mile loop hike through a southern Iowa oakhickory deciduous forest. The hike is moderate – intense hike. The Woodburn Trailhead Parking lot is located at 2394-2342 330th Ave, Woodburn, IA 50275.
